We all have bad days but in the service industry we need to provide helpful service with efficiency and caring. Government jobs are highly competitive - lets keep them staffed with patriots who continue to honor the principles that drive our nation.
The line was not that long. There was no need to be so dismissive and so blatanly unhelpful. He was not asking for a handout - he had legitimate barriers needing help (transportation,housing, computer, internet access, printer, learning disability, etc). He didnt need a parade or a banner - just some kindness and decency.
Not friendly to Veterans. I was behind a disabled vet who was using his social security card as a required form. The staff worker looked at the card and said “can we even take this” to her supervisor. The Vet responded proudly “that is my original - has my air force id number and squadron on the back - it is my original” The supervisor looked him in the eye and said “you shouldnt write on the back” to which he reponded “it is my original” prompting her to say “sometimes originals just need replacing”. The dejected look on his face was heartbreaking and the blatant dismissal of hs patriotism was enough that I had to pull my kids out later and tell them that is now how we honor those who serve for our freedom.
He needed a proof of residency and brought with a half dozen documents that unfortunately did not meet the stringent criteria. When he asked the staff to help him figure out what he needed she told him the list was too long to go over and handed him a form. He looked at the form and asked very nicely if she could help him read and she said no. He told her he was dyslexic and she still would not help. My wife stepped up to read the list to him but the worker still had no help or kindness to offer.
